„‚Shine‘ is the first Elm Tree Circle song that features ‚the‘ disco beat in the chorus. Something we’ve never done before. It was more of an accident than a conscious decision but it worked really well. I mean … Enough time has passed since we were all sick of this beat ten years ago, riiiiight?
Like many Elm Tree Circle songs we like to balance out the very sad lyrics with more upbeat music to spare you some of our melancholy. ‚Shine‘ is a song about getting out of a rut and giving yourself the kick in the butt to get over your bullshit and fall in love with people and aspects of life you like again. Like the verses clearly state I felt a bit down when I wrote the song even though I was often surrounded by people who were very contagious with their positivity. But in moments like these you usually can’t stand any positivity because you just wanna wallow in your own self-pity. But in the end you have to admit that all this self-loathing is pretty dumb and that you actually secretly wish you were more like those people that ‚shine‘ all the time.“
